Beginners Guide - samaya - 10-08-2019

Hi Comunity,

I'm completely new in this on tactic so I was wondering if you guys have a beginner's guide of how to create a project from scratch or sources where I can go and learn more about?

right now I'm just using the official documentation but I want something more tutorial style

Hi samaya,

Thanks for posting! We are planning on creating more tutorials in the near future. 

In the meantime, I'd recommend checking the tech series videos on our Youtube channel.

Also, the TACTIC 4.5 VM and TACTIC team available on the downloads page are quick ways of getting started with TACTIC.

Feel free to share what you are trying accomplish with TACTIC, and we can try to point you in the right direction.

Hi Celton, We are looking at some videos to learn and understand tactic from a vfx perspective. We have come across some VFX templates on couple of youtube videos. However, we were not able to get those example files on our Linux Installations. We have tried but no luck. Can you point us in any direction ? Thank you for all your support.

In my case, I'm building a VFX project as well but for me is not clear how can I assign the workflow to tasks?

how does the asset manager work?
do you guys have any plug in to integrate NUKE?

On the "Create a New Project" wizard, on the third panel called "Template", there is a select box with default stating "- Empty Project -". One of the options in that selection box is VFX. Select those and you will instantiate the open source VFX project.

I have plans to integrate my tools to nuke in the near future.
Don't know if there is any integrations available. At least no one share it

Hello Celton,
I'm glad the community forums are back.
As with most here I am trying to use tactic for seting up a small VFX pipeline. The process has been painful to say the least.
I hope you guys will consider making a series for the VFX industry specifically. You could even contract rajiv Sharma to create a series for it.

Hello Listy,

Installing the software and starting a simple project.
1.The download for the enterprise version doesn't start from the official link
http://community.southpawtech.com/community/link/downloads

2.Installing from Git : the python 3 version has outdated(2.7) install.py file.
3.Installing TC with python 2.7 and the python packages are outdated  

It's been an exercise in frustration.
I'm hopeful things will change now that the forums are back online

Hi behram,

The official TACTIC docs contain installation instructions for Python 2. 

Updated Python 3 installation material for TACTIC 4.7, including an RPM, is in progress. This will be available soon.

Have you tried the VM image available on the downloads page? This is a great way to get started with TACTIC.
